In the confines of the visit, the Atlantic Corridor Coordinator was able to see the works being conducted in Sines’ port and in the rail links that connect it to the European Network – the Portuguese Rail Southern Corridor. After the visit to Sines, the Coordinator and his team visit the construction of the new line that will open between Évora and Caia, which will be integrated in RFC Atlantic, that will reduce the rail journey between Sines and its international markets. With this new connection, there will be significant gains in transit times and costs, which will further improve the importance of RFC Atlantic.
After the visit to this port, Coordinator François Bausch and his team will visit Leixões Port and the Beira Alta line – the Portuguese Rail Northern Corridor - and see its importance in the context of RFC Atlantic. This last line, which suffered major modernisation works in the last 3 years, recently reopened with improved capacity restrictions, which will allow RFC Atlantic’s clients to efficiently transport more quantity of cargo.
